IBM® Rational® Rhapsody V7.5 provides an agile software development environment enabling rapid creation of software, documentation, requirements, and tests in a flexible fashion that reuses existing assets to improve productivity and reduce cost.

Overview

IBM Rational Rhapsody V7.5 is updated with capabilities that harmonize code engineering with architectural modeling, while supporting an agile workflow and enabling design validation to address defects early when they are the least costly to fix. Additionally, improvements allow developers to re-use existing software among projects, reducing development time and increasing product quality. Automation throughout the development life cycle is added with improved workflows with IBM Rational DOORS, integration with Jazz-based IBM Rational Team Concert for collaborative debugging and improved traceability from requirements to generated code and test cases, enabling teams to work smarter together and with greater efficiency.

Project teams can work in a flexible development environment that promotes rapid, iterative development to test new ideas quickly while still maintaining consistency and integrity of information throughout the project to deliver products to market faster. Additionally, companies can rapidly develop and test applications before target hardware is available allowing software development and validation to start earlier in the development process. Developers can better document design architecture, functionality and behavior, reflecting the actual implementation while also being able to design and debug at the code or model level, enabling them to work faster an with more flexibility.

Companies need to do more with less by working smarter, leveraging existing software and models in new smart designs to save cost and increase quality. By following this smarter reuse-oriented workflow, developers can quickly bring existing code into the development environment and automatically visualize and analyze its structure, functionality and behavior, enabling more effective reuse of the code within the new development. Automotive developers can leverage the AUTOSAR standard to develop reusable software components that can be distributed throughout an automotive network to quickly create intelligent automotive solutions. Through enhanced variant modeling capability, developers can strategically reuse components between projects across the entire product line and reduce development cost per product.

Building smart products requires project teams to work effectively together throughout the product life cycle. The improvements optimize traceability from requirements to implementation and test enabling companies to manage changes more efficiently across the product life cycle and increase quality by ensuring design implementation and testing cover all requirements.

The latest IBM Rational Rhapsody® release provides enhanced systems engineering, software development, testing and collaboration capabilities tailored for the embedded system engineer or real time software developer by leveraging new integrations with IBM products that optimize the product and software development lifecycle and improve quality through integrated validation and verification. Further improvements to the recent Eclipse integration, rapid prototyping with graphical panels, improved testing capabilities on target, and domain-specific modeling for Net Centric Systems and MODAF are added.

New IBM Rational Rhapsody 7.5 features include:

  • IBM® Rational® Test RealTime™ Integration – enables software developers to validate and verify their designs in a single environment with the IBM Rational Rhapsody TestConductor™ integration.
  • IBM Rational Team Concert™ Integration - Leveraging the power of the Jazz and Eclipse platforms, IBM Rational Rhapsody enables teams to collaborate in real time, using the integration with Rational Team Concert (RTC) for configuration management.
  • IBM Rational Rhapsody Eclipse Platform Integration Plug-in – integrates IBM Rational Rhapsody into the Eclipse platform and enables working on code or model from within the Eclipse development environment. View Demo
  • Graphical Panels – enables you to create a prototype interface that simulates, validates and communicates design behavior.
  • Improved Reverse Engineering and Roundtripping – IBM Rational Rhapsody enhances the reverse engineering workflow and enables you to leverage more C/C++ constructs.
  • Automotive Industry Focused Refinements – added capabilities, tailored for the needs of the automotive industry, include a new diagram for specifying architectures for AUTOSAR, the ability to control memory partitioning and animation on the host of the Extended C framework.
  • IBM Rational Rhapsody Net-Centric Systems Add On™ – develop and specify services for embedded Net Centric systems using a “SOA approach” with the import and export of WSDL.
